'I'm Lisa Walters. This is my mom, Francine.' |

Trev swung onto the street. He started forward. The knee nudged him. He looked down. Through the eyeholes in his mask, he saw that Sandy's leg was out of the trench coat, bare all the way up her thigh. |
He felt a strange mixture of desire and sadness. That was Maureen's coat, but not Maureen's leg, not Maureen's groin just out of sight under the draping fabric. |
He wondered if he would ever see her again. |
Damn it, he shouldn't have been so timid about getting to know her. If only he'd realized that time was so short. |

It's too late for regrets, he told himself. You can't go back in time and change anything. Just gotta live with your mistakes. And your losses. |

'I sure am glad to meet you two,' Sandy said. 'It was getting to where I was starting to feel like there wasn't anybody else sane but me in the whole darn world.' |
'I'm not sure how sane we are,' Francine said, and let out a peculiar laugh as if to prove her point. |
'Well, you're sure a sight for sore eyes, I tell you that.' |
'I bet you were awfully glad Trevor showed up,' Lisa said. |
'Thought he aimed to kill me, is what.' |
'We bundled him up real good so the rain wouldn't get to him.' |
'Wish I had me an outfit like that.' |
'They're garbage bags,' Lisa explained. |
