'Seems to me,' she said, 'we either stay right here or we don't. We stay put, we got water coming in the rear and we got Francine already wet. She's bound to go for us when she comes to her senses.' |

'We could tie her up,' Lisa suggested. |

Trev said, 'There's no telling who might come at us from the outside.' |

'We can't leave the car,' Lisa said. |

'Well now,' Sandy said, 'we can if we want to. We'd get wet and wild, but that ain't necessarily the worst thing in the world. I been there, you know. And your mom, she's already that way. Trevor, you'd have to get yourself wet along with us.' |

Trev's heart suddenly felt like a fist trying to punch its way out of his chest. 'We'd turn into killers,' he said, his voice shaky. |

'That don't mean we'd have to kill each other. Back when I was wet, I ran into some others in the rain. I had kind of a hankering to go for 'em, but I was plenty more interested in getting after folks that was still dry. If we was all to step out and get ourselves soaked . . .' |
