showing of Out Are The Lights when the thunder boomed. They both flinched. Laughing, Chet squeezed her against his side. She smiled up at him. The lights dimmed. As the hot, exciting rain pounded down on his head and shoulders, Chet watched her face go blotchy then disappear except for the whites of her eyes and teeth. |

He grabbed her wet, hanging hair. Before he could yank her head back to expose her throat, her fingernails ripped open his cheek. Crying out, he clutched her wrist. |

Someone smashed against them. Hanging onto Christie, Chet tumbled to the sidewalk. She came down on top of him, snarling, thrusting her head down at his face, teeth snapping. |

Chet clutched her throat with both hands. |

'No,' she gasped. 'Wait. Let's get them.' |

He ached to choke the life out of the bitch, but her words made him hesitate. He relaxed his grip for a moment, and she lurched free. She scurried backward, crawling off him. 'Them,' she said again. |

On her knees, the sodden black spector thrust an arm straight out and pointed. 'LET'S GET THEM!' she yelled. |

Chet sat up, ignoring the alarmed voices and outcries of those behind himthose at whom Christie was pointing. Instead, he watched the eight or ten struggling figures beyond her back. Some were down on the sidewalk, pounding and ripping at one another. Others were still on their feet. Chet saw one |
