hadn't. Rory's illness had taken her totally by surprise, and totally unprepared to fill in for him.
'Ah-ha! There you are, you little bugger.'
Mercer appeared to be only three blocks from her present location.
She folded the map, tossed it onto the dashboard, and made a U-turn.
With any luck, she would make the delivery and be back at the restaurant by seven-twenty. That would give her forty minutes to spare, but of course her father would likely ship her right off on another errand. And then another.
'Buck up,' she told herself. 'It's not the end of the world. Consider it an intermission.'
Though she wouldn't be seeing much of Trevor tonight, he would surely pop in tomorrow.
That wasn't much consolation. She'd been looking forward to tonight, had even discarded her usual jeans and blouse for a dress, all the better to attract his eye.
Well, she would find time to drop by his table no matter what. Slip off the coat, first. Have a few words with him.
Maureen made a left turn, then smiled. Suppose she invited him to come along? He's off duty tonight, isn't he?
I don't want to scare him off.
