'I'm sure there's nothing to be concerned about.' As Trev said that, he turned his head. Out in the other room, Patterson looked concerned. The man was scowling, saying something as he walked toward Lucy at the switchboard. Lucy was shaking her head and shrugging.
'Anyway,' Francine said, 'about protection for us.'
Trev faced her again.
'My daughter's a witness . . .'
'Well, she's certainly provided valuable information.' He looked at Lisa. 'Is there anything else you want to tell me about last night?'
Shrugging, the girl shook her head. She resumed her study of the frayed knee of her jeans.
Trev turned his eyes to Francine. 'Would you like to step out the door for a minute?'
'No, I would not. Lisa has nothing to say that can't be said in front of me.'
'I've already told you everything,' Lisa said, her voice pouty. 'I'm not keeping any big hot secrets, if that's what you're getting at.'
Trev glanced through the glass in time to see Patterson stride around the end of the front counter. Probably going out to make sure it had been nothing but thunder.
He looked again at the girl. 'Well, you've been very helpful, Lisa, and I really appreciate it.'
'I know they killed him,' she said.
'But you never saw Buddy or his friends after they were escorted from the dance?'
'That's what I told you.'
