Kara screwed up her face again, then let it settle back into place and said, 'Which one would you pick?' |

'Me, too. Though I'm not especially fond of thunder, either.' She pressed the mute button on the VCR's remote and sat very still for a moment. |

Denise heard the soft, windy sound of rain falling on the roof. |

'It must be raining cats and dogs,' Kara said. 'I hope they don't hurt themselves. If it really rained cats and dogs, you know, the cats would all land on their feet. But I'm not sure the dogs would fare so well. They would probably break their necks, don't you suppose?' A smile spread across her face. Leaning toward Denise, she said, 'And just imagine the mess they'd make on the lawn. Toes-up dogs everywhere you look, not even to mention all the elimination.' |
