Denise nodded.
'Hey, Denny,' Tom said.
'Hey, how's it going?'
'Pretty good.'
'I'm over here sitting for Kara Foxworth. That dynamite kid I told you about?'
Kara drew her head back, giving herself a double chin and beaming.
'I was just thinking about you,' Tom said.
'Something good, I hope.'
'Wondering what you were up to. I figured you were all alone at home, you know, with the storm going on and everything. Man, did you catch that thunder?'
'Who could miss it?'
'I thought the house was going to come down.'
'Have you got an umbrella?'
'Why? What's up?'
'Well, Kara here is awfully eager to share her popcorn with you.'
Kara made a face and jammed her fists against her hips.
'You want me to come over?' Tom asked.
'Yeah. I mean, I know it's miserable out, but if you could make it over here without getting yourself drenched . . . Kara's parents are out to dinner, so they won't be very late. And they said it's all right for you to come over. We could watch some TV, have some popcorn and stuff.'
'Sounds great. Hang on a minute, I'll see if it's OK.'
